The ozone layer protecting them from Sol’s ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation and this planet will be broken for a while. Vastly uncomfortable. They leave me no choice.
Good riddance.
It’s time to go. To be fair, my psychological state had been significantly compromised, particularly after the involuntary committal, in the sense that I drove Sylvania away (ok, there was a fair amount of drug use, ranting about the state of the planet, universe and the various things I had been working on that she couldn’t possibly understand). As it were, however, since my release, things are better. I have been busy and I really haven't slept in a while - my body is now a petri dish of pharmaceuticals. But I'm maintaining.
I came to this planet in disincorporated form across nearly 90 billion light years to be reborn in a human body, and I can’t really take the chance of losing Sylvania again.
The only way I am able to depart with Sylvania is to build my own rudimentary starship, easy enough, precious metals, materials and fuel are available for virtually free; power to weight ratios being what they are, it's a precarious balance. Anti-protons and positrons (anti-electrons) are created, slowed down, and forced to interact with each other, where they form neutral anti-hydrogen. By using a combination of electric and magnetic fields, I confine these anti-atoms and keep them stable, away from the matter that would cause them to annihilate. Voila, anti-gravity. By the time you read this, this information will be of little use.
Sorry, kids.
I need a copilot with at least my tactical and mechanical knowledge; A.I. is out of the question, bad code plagued with virii? No, thank you. No one trusts androids anywhere, they're constantly sharing and writing their own code. Instead, I made many of the precision tools necessary to make an exact clone of myself; that alone took over 6 years, and there’s really nothing messier or harder to explain than disposing of failed materials as 'medical waste'.
My ship is ready, my clone is consistent and viable and Sylvania is under the impression I am on my meds and have made a full psychiatric recovery.
She's about to see things in a brand new light.
The increasing technological level of humans makes it nearly impossible to leave this planet undetected. Leaving will be bumpy, so I also built a crude thermal disintegration laser as we will likely have to blast our way out, but under no circumstances can I allow any harm to come to Sylvania or allow them access to the crude technology that I have built.
Every time we use the death ray, it depletes our very finite fuel supply.
lyrics
attention earthlings
I have had enough
and it's so tempting
to use my death ray
you had one final chance
to turn this all around
tell your people
I've given up
I built a ship
from the garbage on your ground
in ways your people
can not understand
If you hear this
come away with me
and we will live
among the stars
I built a star drive
I made my plans
to escape from here
and I can't wait
another moment
I'm begging you to
run away with me
cuz every second here
is torment
