I See Stars

about

That did not go as planned.

To be fair, nearly nothing goes as planned. What’s the saying, ‘beings plan, gods laugh’? If it wasn’t for us encountering a stray asteroid field that pulled away from the asteroid belt, this would be over already, which makes no sense. I’ve seen several futures in this timeline. Am I in the right timeline? It’s getting harder to maintain my sanity enclosed in this pathetic form. Sylvania seems happy but needs infinitely more starlight time. There is a lot I’m not telling her; I do like her like this.

We sent our executive-level clones off to the other ship, so they would pass as humanoid unless medically examined by a biomed. Then we proceeded to act like low budget clones on our way to our ship. It was hard trying not to laugh but we pulled it off, even bumping into a few other ships to make it look realistic. Other pilots were not pleased.

We got into the launch queue and made it out without detection, or so we thought, but we were at maximum non-FTL thrust when we realized they were after us. There was an asteroid field nearby, so I barely touched on the disintegration beam to hollow out one of the larger rocks out to shield us from detection.

We had to wait on the object to rotate to scan for them. That was erratic at best. From what we could tell, they sent two ships in, and both exploded on impact. Large ships do not belong in asteroid belts. Even mildly time traveling ones. The one we saw blinked into existence right in the middle of another asteroid then exploding.

Sylvania was frightened. I laughed.

We waited for a while longer and got some star time in while we could.

She’s evolving, no mistaking it.

lyrics

well people
I got some news today
that the stars are coming out
and we'd best be on our way
because my time here
is nearing the end
and ain't nothin' gonna fix
all the trouble they are in
so say your goodbyes
and wipe away the tears
it's all gonna change
when we're blasting out of here

when the storm clouds part
you will know
I see stars

yeah I'll ditch this puny planet
in a blink of an eye
the hate and pollution
just make me wanna die
and all the people
that they won't feed
this spaceman needs some space
and some distance from their greed
we're talkin' lightyears
and a different frame of mind
no wonder they won't contact you
you failed at mankind

but when the storm clouds part
you will know
I see stars

are you listening?

have you given any thought
of how you'll fix this
or are you trapped in a state
of deep hypnosis
does your mind expand
or does your conciousness contract
our escape is immenent
it's just a simple fact

that when the storm clouds part
you will know
I see stars
