Sister Mary

from Tempt The Angels by Jeff Michaels

/

about

When I was growing up, and already knee deep in trouble in St. Louis, I was sent off to live in a group home, that was actually a very positive force in my life. However, I had to go to catholic school for several years, to put it lightly, Sister Mary was not as enthusiastic about my various habits as I was.

Looking back, I was out of control, but then again, I am who I am, born with a guitar in my hand.

lyrics

well I bathed in the water
of the mississippi
and I drank from a bottle
in the basement of church
well Sister Mary had enough of me
and told me I can't smoke at church

well it's not my fault I was born
with guitar in my hands
but my life has been uphill
ever since
and even though I found love
in the unlikeliest of places
it was the last place I looked
I found my faith
and Sister Mary had enough of me
and told me I can't smoke at church

fine by me

And Lord knows I'm sinner
from way back
I'll be needing ten thousand days
to right my wrongs
well the evil that men do
and all that I've been through
I'm just lucky I'm still here
to sing these songs
and Sister Mary had enough of me
and told me I can't smoke at church
